Gluten intolerance affects a growing number of the popularity and it is not something that is easy to live with – especially at the start when you are just learning about which foods contain gluten and which ones you can eat.
Let’s make it easy on you and list the major foods/food groups that you should avoid that contain gluten.
- Wheat
Gluten is a protein component found in grains and as wheat is a grain, it is the first thing we have to cross off our list. This means most breads, pizza and cereals are on the ‘don’t eat’ list.
- Rye & Barley
Other whole grains, commonly used to create different varieties of bread, rye and barley still contain gluten – so should still be avoided.
- Oats
Think having oats for breakfast is safe? Think again. While some people with a gluten intolerance can stomach them, the majority cannot and they do still contain gluten, so technically are also off the list.
